The Brockbank Fund is administered by local board (3 are former students!) in East London, South Africa. The board receives the applications and interviews the candidates. Members of the board serve voluntarily. Our director works very closely with the local schools, universities, and training facilities.
The funds are paid directly to the schools and each girl is reviewed every year by the board. Except for the one check made out to the tax accountant, every dollar of the donations is sent to South Africa. The girls promise to try to pay back the "loan" when and how they can.
Some of our contributors have asked about the LDS Church's Perpetual Education Fund which operates on the same principles we do. At the present time the PEF has extended to South Africa, but it's focus is on return missionaries. For young women, it is the years between high school (age 17) and the missionary age of 21 where they struggle. It is during this time that the BEF can step in and offer them the continued education they need to become self-sufficient, as well as better their families and their communities.

Kay Brockbank Webber, Founder
The Brockbank Education Fund was founded in 1999 by Kay Brockbank Webber. After spending 18 months in South Africa Kay became aware of the many needs of the communites in which we serve. It became clear to her that the greatest hope for the future of the area lay in the education of its young people.
The Fund is named for Kay's father, Isaac Brockbank, who believed emphatically in education for women as he supported the education of his nine daughters. These daughters joined Kay in financing the first year of the fund. "I hope you will help continue this support of the beautiful and capable young women in South Africa." (Kay Brockbank Webber)
Obituary: Kay Brockbank Webber 1936 ~ 2004 Barbara Kay Brockbank Webber, 68, died peacefully from cancer on August 18th, 2004, with her husband and loving family by her side. Kay was born June 1st 1936 in Spanish Fork, Utah, the youngest of nine daughters to Isaac Elmer Brockbank and Elsie Booth Brockbank. She grew up in Provo, Utah. She attended local schools and graduated from Brigham Young University with a double major in Psychology and Elementary Education. Kay married Robert Reed Webber in the Salt Lake Temple on Nov. 27, 1957. They made their home New York for over 30 years before moving to Sedona, Ariz. Kay was always interested in education and after her marriage she received her Master's Degree in psychology from N.Y.U. and another Master's Degree in social work from Columbia University. Always active in community and humanitarian affairs, she was elected to the Board of Supervisors in New Castle, N.Y. and served on the Planning Board of that city.
